Enrolment
Central New Brighton does not have an enrolment zone; all local children are welcome to attend. Parents of five year olds are asked to contact the school 6 to 8 weeks before their child turns five so enrolment and pre-entry visits can be arranged.
To enroll a five-year-old, parents need to provide a birth certificate and an immunization certificate.
Parents transferring children from another school are asked to enroll their child, a period of 24 hours after enrolment is required before the child can start school. This allows us time to contact the previous school and make an informed class placement for your child based on this information.
New Zealand citizens are entitled to free education.
NOTE:
Families from overseas need to check their residency status to find out if they need to pay fees or not.

School Visits
Before children start at school they are invited to make a series of visits to familiarise themselves with their new classroom and teacher, and to get an idea of what school is all about.
At Central New Brighton School, visits can be arranged on Monday – Thursday mornings from 8:50 to 10:00am. These normally begin four school weeks before your child’s fifth birthday, when he/she will usually attend two or three times a week until beginning school.
Parents are expected to stay in the classroom with their child for these visits, giving them an opportunity to find out more about their child’s class too.
Children do not need to bring anything on their school visits, however, if they have bags, they will be shown where to hang them, and also what the others do as part of their before-school routine.
The new entrant room holds open afternoons twice a term for parents and preschoolers to join the class in action. These are advertised through the local kindergarten and preschools. You are most welcome to attend these even if you are still making your mind up about a school for your child.
We also take some of our new entrant class to visit the local preschool or kindergarten about once per term. The school children love to go back to their old haunts, and mix very happily with the younger children.
To organise visits for your near-five-year-old, please contact our school secretary on 388-9098 during school hours.

School Uniform
At Central New Brighton School, children are expected to be dressed in uniform every day. Uniforms can be purchased through Postie Plus stores. Postie Plus donate a percentage of uniform sales back to the school, so long as you tell them which school you are purchasing uniforms for. Second-hand uniforms can be purchased very reasonably from the school, depending on availability. Items also become available from time to time through local recycled clothing shops. School emblem patches for sewing onto uniforms are available through the office for $2 each.
